DTF (direct-to-film) printing is a versatile and flexible method that produces sharp, vibrant, durable designs on a wide range of fabrics even if the design has intricate details, lots of colors, or fine text.It involves printing your design onto a piece of PET film (a special film with a coating that helps transfer designs) using water-based inks and a special adhesive powder. Then, the design on the PET film is heat-transferred to the fabric using a heat press machine.

Compared to DTG, there is no white underbase for any color material – so all prints have bold, vivid colors and sharp details, even on dark fabrics.

This method causes just the ink to be pressed onto the fibers and is held in place using the adhesive. Because it is pressed onto the material, it will have a smooth feeling that can be felt and is more prominent with a full solid design that does not contain any spaces or break points (ie. a photograph). This also causes it to feel heavier and be less breathable if it is a solid design (solid designs are best for sweatshirts).Initially, the design may feel slightly stiff at first, but it becomes smoother and more elastic after a few washes, ensuring longevity. DTF designs are resistant to cracking and fading wash after wash, even with heavy use.
